★ BOLD. A lot of her boldness stems from how she speaks, seeming to lack a filter and saying what's on her mind, though it's usually a calculated attempt to throw someone off their footing by revealing their weaknesses or making another snide comment. She's bold in her plans, trying to gain power by sucking up to other powerful beings, trying to present herself as an asset and doing so brazenly. She's bold because despite how afraid Rowena may feel she doesn't let fear stop her. Rowena's a survivor which makes her constantly fight for her life even when a situation could make you want to run and hide. Rowena makes boldness her defining trait, choosing not to shy away from something even if the consequences are something to fear, choosing to always remain true to herself and choosing to fight to survive.
★ AMBITIOUS. Rowena is incredibly ambitious, wanting to gain as much power for herself and seemingly not caring about who she hurts along the way. Rowena's true motivations for her ambitions stem from her desire to survive and protect herself: the majority of witches that Rowena has met in her life have shunned her or been unkind, she was run out of Scotland for being a witch and has spent most of her life looking over her shoulder. So Rowena now will do whatever it takes to protect herself, adding to her dangerous collection of magic with as much power as she can gather to ensure she never feels weak again. Rowena's ambitions and striving for power have led her to make terrible choices in her life, allying herself with people who would betray her (if she didn't betray them first) in the hope of gaining power.
★ SELFISH. Rowena's act is all about herself and what she can do for herself, seeming to not care about anyone else. After abandoning her son (after being chased out of town) she never returned for him, claiming that she couldn't be faulted for being a career woman. Truthfully, Rowena knows she was a terrible mother and should have done better, but it also took her a long time to admit her faults. Hating her son was much easier for her than loving him because love made her feel weak -- his father left her half-dead after giving birth which was a pivotal moment for Rowena, teaching her to only think about herself because no one else would, something that other witches along her years only reinforced when they shunned her. Rowena will always look out for herself first because she doesn't believe anyone else will and she will save herself rather than try to help others, only offering her help if she believes that she can get something out of it in return (her freedom, power, or something powerful).
★ IMPULSIVE. Whilst Rowena is powerful and wishes to be prepared for anything, she gets too drawn in by her wants. Rowena's desire for power means she quickly allies herself with powerful people, even when they are known to be terrible people (such as Lucifer). Rowena overlooks this, too blinded by the idea that she could become more powerful if she proves herself useful, and ends up quite short-sighted, ignoring any red flags in the hope that she gets what she wants. It leads her to very often double-cross the people she's working with, bouncing from one person to the next when her first idea fails. She doesn't have a plan outside of becoming powerful, so it leads her to quickly take opportunities when they pop up instead of thinking about how it might help (or hurt) her.
★ WITCH. Rowena is a witch, having honed her craft for over three centuries and building herself an incredible base of knowledge. Being a natural-born witch (as opposed to one who got their power from a demon deal) means that, as well as being able to cast spells through incantations, Rowena has an innate magic/power within her, being able to draw magic to her and cast spells nonverbally. After practising her craft for centuries, she's incredibly knowledgeable about many forms of magic, skilled in spellwork (and creating spells), using hex bags and Enochian sigils or Druidic runes. Rowena is also able to translate spells from multiple languages, including many ancient languages.
Many of Rowena's spells come from grimoires or things that she has memorised. Spells and hex bags require Rowena to have gathered the ingredients in advance and often prepared them in advance.
Rowena is capable of using her magic to heal herself and others or resurrect them, transform people and objects into other things, astral project, conjure illusions, curse others (and remove curses) and she also has an awareness of other magical (or supernatural) beings, being able to sense them.
Some of the spells that Rowena uses a hex bag for, she is also able to cast without it (the hex bag strengthening the length of time the spell is cast for). Without a hex bag, she can additionally conjure elements, telekinetically move or destroy objects and people, and teleport. Rowena can manipulate the strength of her spells (e.g. light a candle with a small flame or light someone on fire with a larger power) and also use magical energy on its own as an attack or defence.
Additionally, as a witch, Rowena is immortal, immune to ageing and disease, but can be killed in other ways (being stabbed, burned or having her neck snapped). She prefers carrying a resurrection seal on her (just in case), however, she currently does not have one on her person.
★ WEAKNESSES & NOTES.★ Though she is a powerful witch, she is physically very squishy and has zero physical strength in a fight. She's able to be bested in a magical fight, as Rowena often panics or can be caught by someone else's spell.
★ Rowena will have to spend time gathering ingredients and will only be able to cast spells that she has memorised (unless she finds a grimoire) or does not need any ingredients to cast initially.
★ Rowena will only be able to teleport short distances around the city.
★ She will not be able to open any portals (or time travel), or summon or banish others.
★ Her power can happily be lowered to any game requirements (for strength, time limit or casting distance).
★ Whilst Rowena is powerful, learning the power of friendship has stopped her from feeling as free as she used to be in wanting to hurt others, only now doing so when her life (or someone she cares about) is at risk.
★ She is terribly afraid of fire and will panic and freeze at a fire not caused by herself.
★ Permissions will be asked from others before magic is used on a character.
★ Rowena will attempt to create her resurrection seal, but it can easily be stated that she can't find an ingredient to prevent her from finishing it. The same is true for other resurrection spells (unless you'd ever like zombies).

Supernatural is a very standard present-day Earth, where all of the stories and lore about supernatural creatures are actually true, even if the stories and media stretch that truth a little. Heaven, Hell, angels, demons, God, monsters and witches, everything you could think of or have read a story of actually exists. And likes to bite with vengeance.
Most of the world tends to be blissfully ignorant of these happenings: multiple apocalypses have attempted to happen, and aside from weird news stories, things seem to get quickly forgotten about, and monsters survive by not making their presence publicly known.
The only difference is the two hunter brothers who have made it their mission to keep the world ticking and to save as many lives as possible. If you think they have impossible plot armor, it's true: God made it so. God ended up setting this current universe to revolve around them (the universes where these brothers made different choices or didn't exist quickly turned to one apocalypse or another) and watching their story as the biggest fanboy possible. No, really, there's fanfiction and everything. (God wrote half of it).
Rowena's a witch who kept to herself and has purposely stayed out of supernatural-type events (especially those apocalypses) for centuries. This changes when she kills a demon two hunters want, gets on their radar, and though she escapes, she's caught in the narrative now. Her relationship with the hunters turns from antagonistic and mortal enemies to the family we didn't know we needed. She ends up helping them in one way or another, initially for a price and then because she cares.
Magic in her universe is something that anyone can learn, though how they get their power (bargaining with a demon, being a natural-born witch, or simply studying magic) determines how much they can do with magic. Natural-born witches like Rowena are the strongest magic users. Sadly, much magical knowledge and witch culture was lost during the witch trials, with the great covens being decimated, but magic itself comes from nature: it will always exist. Based in nature, witches use ingredients, incantations, sigils, and spellwork, very natural magic that allows the caster to do great feats (such as telekinesis, astral projection, and conjuration) rather than a witch having specific power. It's very traditional magic. And old.

historically--
★ Rowena's born in Scotland in the 1600s, the daughter of a tanner, and hooks up with a married man, having a son (Fergus) in 1661. Abandoned by his father, Rowena begins delving properly into witchcraft.
★ She flees Scotland in 1669/1670 (without Fergus) when the witch trials begin and attempts to find refuge across Europe. Later, she is accepted into the Grand Coven before being banished and forbidden to use magic (she does not listen to that)
★ She encounters a Polish family who take her in, and in return, she heals their dying son (hugely important: Rowena loved him like a son).
to the narrative--
★ Rowena discovers that her son is alive (and the King of Hell) and attempts to return to his life. She kills a demon, meets the Winchesters, and gets dragged before her son. They reunite; it's manipulative, she has a great time.
★ Rowena tries to kill the Winchesters to try and remove their influence from her son. But (in his eyes) she goes too far, and he kicks her out.
★ She ends up assisting Sam in researching and removing the Mark of Cain from Dean, succeeds, and accidentally releases God's sister (Amara). With Amara free, the Winchesters want her help in stopping her. This includes meeting Lucifer, where she releases him, and is killed by him. She resurrects, the Winchesters get her on side again to deal with Amara, happily ever after.
★ Rowena tries to have a supernatural-free life and dates (boring) rich men, but with Lucifer a problem, her son finds her and manipulates her into sending Lucifer back to the cage. It fails, but this time, she agrees to be on call to best Lucifer when they need her (growth!). Months later, before they can try to imprison Lucifer again, he kills her (again).
★ This time, after resurrecting, Rowena tries to find the spell to unlock the seal that the Grand Coven placed on her magic. The Winchesters don't want to help her, but she gets the spell from Sam, who understands her trauma. (Her opening up to Sam about her trauma was huge and helped him understand her.)
★ Except that Rowena also learned that her son had died and, grief-stricken, tried to get an audience with Death to get him back. Rowena fails; she is left with the knowledge that she is no longer capable of the terrible things she used to do: the Winchesters made her a better person, and she cares about them.
★ When God has a tantrum and tries to end the world, she's there. When the world is threatened to be consumed by the souls from Hell, Rowena puts her life on the line: magic and her body can take those souls back to Hell.
★ In a beautiful twist of fate, and through sheer intimidation and her intimate knowledge of Hell, Rowena is now its Queen.
Rowena is brave, bold and gutsy. A lot of her boldness stems from how she speaks, seeming to lack a filter and saying what's on her mind, though it's usually a calculated attempt to throw someone off their footing by revealing their weaknesses or making another snide comment. Rowena's a survivor, which makes her constantly fight for her life even when a situation could make you want to run and hide. It's meant that she's made a lot of bad choices over the years, mostly in sucking up to powerful beings to try and find safety to ensure her survival, but when combining her boldness with her cunning you can see she always has a backup plan up her sleeve. Rowena's survived these centuries where some of those powerful beings (or other over-confident witches) have been bested. Overall, she wants to make you think that she has no weaknesses, doing everything that she can to hide her fears and insecurities, trying to make others fear her. The other half of Rowena's boldness is a mask, it's that cover-up for her fears and her insecurities: if she presents a confident, put-together woman who has no chinks in her armour you wouldn't think to dig any deeper, especially if she's on the verbal attack to knock you down (or flirts. Usually, there's flirting).
Rowena is an incredibly ambitious witch, someone who initially spent much of her life trying to gain as much power as she possibly could. Her real motivations for her ambition stem from her desire to survive and protect herself: she has spent the majority of her life being shunned or rejected and has felt little but hurt. It leads to her being incredibly mistrustful of others, cagey and keeping others at arm's length. Rowena acts as if she's all about herself, and has done many things without seeming to care about how they'd hurt others. Rowena's selfishness comes from what has happened to her in her life, the heavy stream of rejection becoming pivotal moments for her, teaching her to think about herself because no one else was on her side. When she finds herself in a situation where she feels trusted or supported, that falls apart, and you see her willingness to help and even protect the world.
When Rowena does find a friendship or believes in someone, she is incredibly loyal, but it takes a lot to get there. She believes in actions over words. Family is something important to her, even though she hasn't known much of it (or much goodness in it) in her life. When Rowena feels safe, she is kinder, more open, and would do anything to protect those she loves. She may still not willingly (verbally) admit that she cares but her actions speak far greater than words could.
+ Multi-lingual! Rowena grew up bilingual (Scottish Gaelic and English) and has learned numerous other languages in her lifetime (ancient and modern).
+ Incredible memory (not photographic but Rowena has a tendency to memorise her spellwork, including the entirety of the encoded Book of the Damned so she didn't have to keep translating it)
+ Herbalism! Rowena has excellent botanical knowledge of the plants from her world. She could make you a special tea, a poultice, a potion, etc etc. (Or do something less kind with that knowledge)
- Physically weak. She's a squishy mage and has no capabilities in a fight. Can figure out how to fire a gun, though, but is unskilled in it. Worse with a knife
- Suffers PTSD from her deaths and treatment by Lucifer, has nightmares of him, relives those memories, and often sees his face in the corner of her eye/when she closes her eyes.
★ MAGIC. At home, Rowena is a powerful witch with centuries of research, practice and use of magic. It's known that there are three ways in which people in her world access magic: deals with demons for some power, being students of witches (not powerful but able to cast spells and build some power) and natural-born witches (like Rowena) who's magic comes from nature, born with the capability to use magic (and are thus more powerful). Whilst a lot of the ways that Rowena would usually be able to use her magic are not applicable here (either due to the ingredients she'd need not being found in this world or the spells themselves not translating to Thedosian magic), below is a list of her magical capabilities that do have Thedas-magic connections.
★ HEALING. Rowena can use her magic to heal others, and in Thedas this would align more to how a spirit healer would use their magic rather than her typical capabilities, something she'd need to also spend time learning about with the interactions with spirits for healing. She also wouldn't be able to heal anyone in as much capacity as she's used to (limited to game limits).
★ ELEMENTAL MAGIC. Rowena can conjure fire (as small as something like the spell spirit bolt, or toned down to light just a candle, or more create a wall of fire), lightning (in small static jolts, or larger attacks similar to a lightning bolt or chain lightning) and knows ice-based magic (smaller cold-based spells like winter's grasp -- the cold isn't her favourite). Larger uses of her magic (like wall of fire or chain lightning) would weaken her much quicker than if Rowena just used a small spell to light a candle. If she sustained a small spell for a significant period (e.g. a more continual blast of a lightning bolt) that would also drain her much quicker than she's used to.
★ NATURE MAGIC. As a Celtic witch, Rowena is very familiar with druidic magic, how nature works with magic and plant-based magic (and even speaks the language of the trees). As the plant-life in Thedas is different to her knowledge, Rowena would need to spend time researching the nature of this world and would need to make connections. I'd like (as a basis, if possible) that she could perhaps use the magic she already knows when tending a plant as "encouragement to grow". Given the secrecy of Keeper magic in Thedas she may not be able to learn more, but it could be an avenue for development (and knowledge trade?)
★ TELEKINETIC MAGIC. Rowena has used telekinetic magic either as a destructive shockwave or to throw someone clear, which works similarly to mind blast.
★ HEXES. This witch loves a hex. One of her favourite's is an immobilisation spell (paralyze or glyph of paralysis if she's used a spell bag (she'd have to learn how to set a glyph instead in Thedas)), putting someone to sleep, draining someone's energy to kill them (with great pain to them, toned down to be like weakness or curse of mortality). And if she knows a curse (or has a grimoire), she can undo someone else's curse (dispel magic).
★ NECROMANCY. Rowena has created resurrection spells (both for herself and others, using the spirit as well as body), however, I feel her resurrection magic in Thedas would work better, similar to animate dead rather than anything true-resurrection. NOTE: that necromancy is not something that Rowena does often, she's used it for herself (and one or two others at a push) but how death and necromancy works here could be more of a plot point of magical research into this world's necromancy or spirit magic, hence its listing.
★ BLOOD MAGIC. It's something spell-specific, but Rowena isn't against using blood as an ingredient in her spells. It isn't common, but I'm listing it as knowledge as it'll surely be plot-relevant (her spells using blood often involve linking spirits/life forces together). Even if Rowena can't use blood in her spells in Thedas as she normally would it's a thing.
★ SPIRIT MAGIC. Rowena knows how to astral project, either just projecting her consciousness somewhere else to spy on someone, or to have a conversation ("mentally") with someone, or can physically project her image. This obviously wouldn't work in the same way, but I'd like to develop the idea that perhaps she could similarly enter the Fade (remaining conscious and lucid), something that she'd need to learn about, learn how to do and take time to figure it all out.
★ I've omitted spells which didn't have any magical parallels in Thedas. Whilst Rowena will still know them and may try them, they simply just won't work. How frustrating for her!
★ Whilst she is ridiculously powerful in her universe, her magic will be scaled down to the level of a highly skilled and powerful mage of Thedas proportions.
★ Whilst the Book of the Damned is on her inventory (and her journal, of some of her recent spellwork) those spells would also just fail.
★ Using magic continually/high amounts of magic will exhaust her quicker than she's used to, and she'll have to rest for longer to build her energy back up.
★ Whilst a lot of Rowena's magic does translate to how Thedas magic works, where she uses specific spell-words for some of her spells, she'd need to learn how to cast certain spells in Thedas style instead of her original style (particularly glyphs and hexes). I plan for this to take time for her to learn (lots of study, weeks and months of slowburn learning/research) before she's able to confidently set certain spells (particularly the glyphs and her capabilities in healing. Spirit magic would be her very last thing to learn/open up).
★ I'm happy for this to be the very top end of Rowena's magic and her not to be able to learn anything additional/gain additional magical power -- she already has a lot of power and doesn't need more! In terms of nature magic, this could also be "she can learn by reading about it but may not be able to cast the spells for it" (perhaps it's too different to her druidic knowledge).
★ If need be, I'm happy to nerf Rowena's capability to cast any necromantic magic. She'd probably share in terms of "intellectual study" with other mages her knowledge as discussion points, maybe read up on how it works here (for curiosity) but not be able to cast it. Same for her nature magic!
★ a pink dress, including jewellery of matching silver and blue earrings and necklace, an iron chain, and her hair pins
★ the book of the damned. the book was spelled to be indestructible, but we're nerfing that!!The Book of the Damned is a centuries old book created to be like an "ultimate guide to curses" (undoing powerful, dark magic) but anything in it came with almost biblical consequences at times. Since the curses in it are very situationally specific (e.g. opening Lucifer's cage, removing the Mark of Cain, dark necromancy) none of the spells would be able to be cast even with the book present because they're specific to Rowena's world in circumstance. It's just there for cool plot and oh shit.★ a bloodied dagger
★ one of rowena's journals
Whilst Rowena's from a more modern time now, having lived as long as she has means that she remembers a time similar to Thedas, before there was technology, electricity, and when life was much harder, particularly if you were a witch.
Given that Rowena can be quite outspoken about her opinions on magic and hunters (and having lived through the witch trials), it'll be interesting to see how she adapts to the world, how readily she opts to be helpful to any particular organisation or effort, and where she'll lay that help. Being a Rowena survivor foremost, she'll be helpful enough to ensure her survival and is as talented at research and teaching as she is at being a witch.
Rowena's also knowledgable about other universes, both due to having met God (really) and having opened a portal to another universe. It's something that will make the concept of the Fade interesting to her and how she tries to work it into her conceptual knowledge of universes and realms.
Rowena will also enjoy a new chance on life, even if it's not a life she would have asked for. Whilst being Queen of Hell is wonderful she does miss being alive (and hadn't been ready to accept her death), so she'll be very motivated to stay alive again. However (and if she hears opinions on this), given the ideas of the Fade and spirits it might give her a slight existential crisis if she thinks on it too hard (but she's equally likely to try and not do that).
★ WITCH. As a witch, Rowena's immortal, immune to ageing and disease but able to be killed by other methods. Rowena has been described by others as a very powerful and dangerous witch, given the liberties she takes in using her magic and her history of using it to hurt other people for her own gains. After practising her craft for centuries, she's incredibly knowledgeable about many forms of magic, skilled in spellwork (and creating spells), using hex bags and Enochian sigils or Druidic runes. Rowena is capable of using her magic to heal herself and others, transform people and objects into other things, astral project, move people and objects telekinetically, conjure illusions, curse others (and remove curses) and has an awareness of other magical (or supernatural) beings, being able to sense them. While Rowena knows many spells, she still relies on grimoires to cast spells that she has never used before along with ingredients.
After unlocking the seal on her magic, her eyes glow purple when she uses magic and her spells take a purple hue to them. She is additionally now able to teleport, see Reapers and in general her spells have become more powerful.
Whilst Rowena is incredibly powerful there are many limitations to her. She can be wounded and killed by injury (and will remain dead if her self-resurrection spell is inactive), can be overpowered by stronger beings, is weakened by iron (limiting her power), can be exhausted by overuse of her magic, and if she cannot verbally speak she cannot cast most of her spells. Rowena is also not a fighter outside of her magic nor physically strong and is easily overpowered.
★ NOTE. I have a hefty permissions post regarding Rowena's magic and won't use it against people without discussion -- Rowena might like to manipulate and control people but she doesn't do it to everyone she meets and I won't cross ooc boundaries. She has also been on a redemption path where she is less inclined to control/manipulate others. I am also very happy to play by the limits of whatever needs to be set power/distance-wise. She'll be very mad about her magic being limited (again) but it'll give her some motivations to try and unleash herself again (even though she can't).
Rowena usually keeps a self-resurrection seal active on her person in case she dies. She's currently removed this but may potentially try and put one back. I'm happy to play by game death rules (especially consequences) even with this and make her come back slowly/normally by game standards otherwise (if she dies). Rowena will also not be able to open portals to other universes, reality warp or summon/banish people into and out of the city. As her spells tend to require ingredients she will have to spend time gathering these.
★ LINGUIST. Rowena uses Latin for many of her spells, though is also capable of reading and casting spells in other (and ancient) languages, being able to translate the components of them.
-- a pink, bloodied dress and heels
-- hair pins
-- an iron chain
Rowena was born a witch, though whilst she never cast any spells or used any power until she actively chose to do so she's always had that natural capacity within her. In some ways though she has always used magic, using natural elements of the world, learning from youth the knowledge of how to use the plants around her, something that if she'd followed that path more would have led to her being known as a Cunning Woman. That knowledge served her well when she tapped into her magic, the ingredients that she needed for her spells, how to create hex bags and strengthening herself with natural elements of magic. In terms of magic, Rowena states that she serves nature: it's where her magic comes from and she reveres the world around her and all of its natural elements.
Rowena's opinion of the supernatural was formed by her experiences, and generally, it's a stay away opinion. Many of the supernatural beings in the world are monsters, killers and things that end up hunted, and whilst witches also often fall into that same category (of being hunted) it doesn't form any bonds with other creatures: monsters would still hurt a witch. Rowena has learned through her years, through conversation and reading the lore, much about the monsters she never wished to tangle with. Especially the fae, even if not all of the tales she learned in her youth were accurate.
The return of her son, Fergus. Rowena's relationship with her son has always been tense and tragic: his father abandoned her as she gave birth, she could never allow herself to love him because of how that had made her feel and eventually she abandoned him. Though their paths crossed through unusual circumstances again centuries later, neither could trust the other even if (very slowly) they did manage to form a connection and a growing understanding of the other. When her son died it ended up breaking Rowena, surprisingly for her, because she'd loved him all along and had been unable to admit it: and now never could. Rowena was filled with regret over the choices that she'd made, regretted being unable to give her son a better life and regretted being unable to make amends with him or have more time with him. Whilst tangling with Death told Rowena that he was gone she would be delighted (and then annoyed) if she could have him back: her grief is still strong, as is her wish to see him again.
Sam Winchester. Despite being a hunter, Sam became the closest friend to Rowena that she'd ever known. Even when she was trying to kill him and his brother he never tried to hurt her, and though he correctly distrusted her he also showed her a kindness that was unexpected, listening to her, valuing her wisdom and skills and asking for her help. This man who should want her dead was doing more for Rowena than anyone in her life had ever done and it's no wonder that she ended up fond of him, trusting him with her pain and vulnerability and eventually being his mentor in his journey into witchcraft. Rowena and Sam's paths tangled so often that their destinies eventually became intertwined. With Sam becoming the family to Rowena that she'd never known, her closest friend and the person that helped her become a better version of herself, she would do so much for him: to help him, to save him, etc. She's already died for him, she'd easily go to another realm for him.
Rowena is cunning, someone that's had to build herself up to survive the centuries. She learned at a very early age that she was alone, finding that no one cared about her and needing to find her own strength and resourcefulness in order to survive. Rowena's intelligence, her wits in how to manipulate others and how to use the world around her helped with that. Her cunning nature, and a willingness to be bold (and even do whatever she had to, even if it was a little morally dark grey) kept her strong, kept her alive, and helped her find very creative solutions to many of the problems that have come her way. Whilst Rowena has had others in her life there has been no one there as a permanent or even trusted figure, relationships and acquaintances are fleeting leaving her with just herself. But she's always a step ahead, always thinking of what to do next, and always working to pull herself out on top.
Rowena is a character who went through such a huge arc, particularly in the last five years of her life, going from someone who was focused solely on her own survival no matter the cost to someone who sacrificed her life to save the world (and especially the lives of those she cares most about). Rowena would be more willing to get involved in the setting from this canon point, would be more willingly helpful and even guiding about magic. She's very magically (and supernaturally) knowledgeable due to her long life and skill in magic.
Whilst Rowena does have a complex relationship with god(s) due to being pagan and would be less willing to give offerings to the gods of Solvunn it would be an interesting arc to follow: when faced with trouble with her own magic would she be willing to ask something of a god, what would she do if not, how will she learn to deal with the difference in power to what she knows? (And also "secretly" jealous of the library in Thorne and wishing that they were the ones who summoned her).
Even though she may be reluctant with the gods she would be curious about the differences in magic here to what she knows and in learning the different systems of magic in this world. And whilst she finds her footing? Researching and being useful is her style.
★ WITCH. As a witch, Rowena's immortal, immune to ageing and disease but able to be killed by other methods. Rowena has been described by others as a very powerful and dangerous witch, given the liberties she takes in using her magic and her history of using it to hurt other people for her own gains. Rowena is capable of using her magic to heal herself and others, transform people and objects into other things, astral project, move people and objects telekinetically, conjure illusions, curse others (and remove curses) and has an awareness of other magical (or supernatural) beings, being able to sense them. Rowena is also not a fighter outside of her magic nor physically strong and is easily overpowered.
★ NERFS.★ Rowena will only be able to teleport around Solvunn (accurately to places she's been before, inaccurately if she tries to teleport elsewhere: dropping her either in an unfortunate situation or dropping her randomly elsewhere somewhere she knows)★ LINGUIST. Rowena has learned multiple languages throughout her long life. Whilst many of her spells are cast in Latin, Rowena has shown that she is knowledgable in reading and casting spells in other (and ancient) languages, being able to translate the components needed for them, and in some cases stating that she is the only witch alive capable of translating such ancient magic (and the language).
★ She will not be able to open any portals (such a spell requires archangel grace and she has no way of getting that from the archangels anyway)
★ Rowena currently does not have a resurrection seal on her. Whilst she would want to recreate that as her safety measure, if she did ever die I would play by the game death rules on it even with a resurrection seal.
★ She won't be able to use other resurrection spells on other characters (canonly botched resurrection spells can create zombies. If permitted as a consequence, I'd come to the plotting post to discuss it out as a plot/idea, otherwise, any resurrection spells on a person will just fail)
★ rp shenanigans/being in this world where magic works differently I'm happy to say her general power level is weaker where necessary. It would make her have to work with others for specific spells to channel enough power or to research the magic of this world. She'll be very mad about her magic being limited (again, even if she kind of understands an aspect of it) but it'll give her some motivation to try and unleash herself again (even though she can't).
★ She won't be able to summon/banish other people or teleport others with her.
★ Many of her spells require ingredients so she'd have to spend time collecting these anyway
★ Whilst Rowena does have a lot of dangerous and deadly knowledge she is now less-inclined on using it, only if she felt threatened or in danger (she learned the power of friendship). I will also have a hefty permissions post regarding Rowena's magic and won't use it against people without discussion -- whilst Rowena no longer uses her magic as cruelly as she used to, any magic use on other characters will be asked for and I won't cross ooc boundaries.
She doesn't have a plan outside of becoming powerful so it leads her to quickly take opportunities when they pop up instead of thinking about how it might help (or hurt) her.

Rowena is also not a fighter outside of her magic nor physically strong and is easily overpowered.
★ NOTE. Whilst Rowena is incredibly powerful, for centuries she has had a limitation on her magic due to the Grand Coven sealing away some of her power. Whilst she has unlocked her full potential by removing the seal, she recently expended a great deal of magic attacking a Reaper and is currently in a weakened magical state. Though some of that strength will return over time even Rowena stated she doesn't know if her full strength will return. I will also have a hefty permissions post regarding Rowena's magic and won't use it against people without discussion -- Rowena might like to manipulate and control people but she doesn't do it to everyone she meets and I won't cross ooc boundaries. Rowena also keeps a self-resurrection seal active on her person in case she dies. I'm happy to play by game death rules (especially consequences) even with this, for it to "insta-revive" her at the allowed events and make her come back slowly/normally by game standards otherwise (if she dies). Rowena will also not be able to open portals to other universes, reality warp or summon/banish people into and out of the city. As her spells tend to require ingredients she will have to spend time gathering these.
The first time that Lucifer killed Rowena he snapped her neck and she (acted like she) brushed it off (though feared him). The second time that Lucifer killed her he tortured her first -- he showed her his true face, the one of the devil hidden beneath the vessel that he wears, before burning her and killing her. After Rowena resurrects (again), the fear that she'd already had of him is magnified -- she is terrified of Lucifer and any mention of him, wanting to have nothing to do with any plan that involves him (even stopping him) because of how afraid she is. Rowena remarks that she is haunted by the sight of his true face and this consuming fear is what pushes her to try and find the spell to unlock the seal that had been placed on her magic, something she had known about and had been fine living with because she was powerful anyway. But Lucifer had made her feel powerless and she never wanted to feel that way again, driving her to regain her full power so that she could stop him if he came after her again. For someone who is usually bold and fearless, she feels weak and vulnerable and hates every minute of it.
Sam Winchester. It's a funny thing, something that sneaked up on Rowena and took her a long time to recognise. Sam is the first person in centuries that shows Rowena kindness, that truly listens to her when she talks and he's the first person who believes in her. After spending most of her life shunned for her magic, Sam seeks her out because she's a powerful witch, and she's far from being on friendly terms with the Winchesters at that point. Whilst Rowena betrays the Winchesters from time to time, even trying to kill Dean, she never tries to hurt Sam, instead confiding in him and asking for his help. Their bond slowly develops through conversations, Rowena more quickly agreeing to help Sam than anyone else that asks, Sam offering her advice and caring, and along the way, he becomes something of her protege. When Rowena does attempt to kill him it's done with immense sadness, bringing her to tears at the thought because she doesn't want to kill him she just needs a means to an end, though it's something that Rowena can't go through with. After Rowena's own death, her final death, others comment on the impact that Rowena has had on him, on the fact that she has left all of her magical knowledge and collections to him -- her lifetime's work only accessible to Sam Winchester, her protege. The person that changed her life by being kind to her. Who became her family.
Rowena wishes that she had another chance with her son, though really, she wishes that she could redo much of what happened in his life because of her. She knows that she was a terrible mother and wishes that she could have been a better one, and whilst she claims that she didn't have a choice in leaving her son behind (when he was 8, due to her being chased out of town during the witch hunts) she also never went back for him. Rowena now, with more clarity and reflection on her life, would have gone back for him, would have tried better to raise him and let him make the choices she wished that he had the opportunity to make rather than following in her doomed footsteps. She never knew her grandson, Crowley and Gavin both died younger than they should, and neither had a good life. Rowena now would give them that or would try to. She is less afraid of love and choice.
Rowena is firmly in her Reputation era, something that she's been in for many centuries, but it's started to hit a big explosive part. Look What You Made Me Do, I Did Something Bad and This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things are titles that really sum up much of her life: she was shunned by witch covens, has spent her life looking over her shoulder and now, when she finally has magical freedom, is haunted by Lucifer and has been hunted. Rowena would argue that her terrible life choices and willingness to do bad things is a response and survival instinct based on what has happened to her: you did this to me, so look what you made me do. I did something bad because of it. You did this, this is why we can't have nice things. In her words: nice girls are pathetic, here's to evil skanks. She's here to seek power, and protect herself, and if someone has to die to get what she wants? Oh well.
Name: Rowena MacLeod Door: dominant door pass Canon: Supernatural Canon Point: Beat the Devil ( season 13, episode 21 ) Age: 300+ Appearance: link History: link CR AU (Optional): Personality: Positive Trait: ★ BRAVE. Rowena is brave and bold, at least this is what she wants you to believe. Rowena wishes to be seen as dangerous, as ballsy, as someone who has no weaknesses, willingly using her magic as she feels fit regardless of the consequences. Rowena craves power but really, she wishes to hide her insecurities, wanting others to be afraid instead of her. This stems from the fears that Rowena has, the traumas that she's encountered in her life and her more reckless and bold actions have become her response to it. However, whilst there is much that Rowena fears she refuses to let these fears stop her from living, instead they become a driving force (to seek out more power) to find her own strength, to overcome what she's afraid of and to fight it. After Lucifer kills her (horrifically), Rowena fears even the mention of him, at first seeming to cower away from any plans involving him. When Lucifer kidnaps her, rather than going along with his plans to save her own life she fights against him, lying to him, casting a different spell to planned and trying to kill him before he could kill her. Whilst she fears him she refuses to let that weakness rule her actions, letting her hate power her instead. Each time Rowena runs into Lucifer she feels stronger, refusing to let his barbed jabs dig into her and instead tries to taunt him, to try and show him that she is not afraid of him, to show him that he has no power over her. It's not entirely true but it's the front she runs with to try and make herself feel strong and brave. Rowena is a survivor and will fight for her life, she refuses to sit in fear or defeat. She refuses to feel weak.Negative Trait: ★ AMBITIOUS. Rowena is an incredibly ambitious witch, wanting to gain as much power for herself as she can and seeming not to care about who she hurts along the way. Rowena's true motivations for her ambitions stem from her desire to survive and protect herself: Rowena has spent the majority of her life being shunned or rejected, first by the father of her child, then by her coven, then by town. Rowena has felt nothing but hurt for the majority of her life, constantly looking over her shoulder and feeling as if she needed to accumulate power just to protect herself. Whilst Rowena is already described as a dangerous witch even when not at her full power she seeks more -- she refuses to feel weak, refuses to let anything potentially defeat her, particularly when she believes that she's the only one who will look out for her. She needs to be able to protect herself. It means as well as seeking to grow her own magic that she seeks out powerful people, making very short-sighted and impulsive decisions to try and ally herself with someone stronger than her. This is seen when she manipulated Crowley to gain Hell's favour, then worked with Lucifer, then Amara, all beings of great power. None of the situations worked well for her, her lust for power made her overlook what a terrible decision it was, but a common trait is that she will suck up to power, even when she doesn't truly believe in the person: if she can gain favour then she can surely gain power and be safe.Negative Trait: ★ SELFISH. Rowena's act is all about herself and what she can do for herself, seeming to not care about anyone else. Rowena has made a lot of terrible decisions in her life, trying to justify them based on the circumstances that were in her life at the time. She abandoned her son (after being chased out of town) but never returned for him, claiming that she couldn't be faulted for being a career woman. She sided with Lucifer and Amara, trying to gain more power. She killed man people trying to bring her son back, though justified it as having killed terrible people. Truthfully, Rowena knows that she was a terrible mother and that she has made terrible choices and should have done better ("I'm a flawed, petty, evil creature. I don't know if I can be redeemed"), but it has also taken her a very long time to admit her faults. Rowena's selfishness comes from what has happened to her in her life, the heavy stream of rejection that she faced in her youth. She was abandoned by the man who claimed to love her, she was rejected and shunned by her coven and then chased out of Scotland during the witch trials. These were pivotal moments for Rowena, teaching her to think about herself because no one else was on her side. Hating her son, being cruel to others and only looking out for herself became much easier for her because Rowena viewed love (and kindness) as weakness. Rowena will always look out for herself first because she doesn't believe anyone else will and she will save herself rather than try to help others. When beginning to work with the Winchesters she initially only offered her help if she believed that she can get something out of it in return (her freedom, power, or something powerful). Whilst she has had some growth there, offering her help in an attempt to redeem herself, she still doesn't believe that anyone else is looking out for her.Negative Trait: ★ IMPULSIVE. Whilst Rowena is powerful and wishes to be prepared for anything, she ends up getting too drawn in by her wants. Rowena's desire for power means that she quickly allies herself with powerful people, even when they are known to be terrible people (such as Lucifer). Rowena overlooks this, too blinded by the idea that she could become more powerful if she proves herself to be useful, and ends up quite short-sighted, ignoring any red flags on the hope that she gets what she wants. It leads her to very often double (and triple) cross the people that she's working with, bouncing from one person to the next when her first idea fails. She doesn't have a plan outside of become powerful so it leads her to quickly take opportunities when they pop up instead of thinking about how it might really help (or hurt) her. And given that she has died twice and has made some very powerful enemies her impulsive opportunities usually hurt her. Powers and Abilities: ★ WITCH. As a witch, Rowena's immortal, immune to ageing and disease but able to be killed by other methods. Rowena has been described by others as a very powerful and dangerous witch, given the liberties she takes in using her magic and her history of using it to hurt other people for her own gains.
