Rowena MacLeod
Alone again, Rowena travelled to Europe to find shelter and study more magic. She landed upon the Lochlin family, known for taking in witches, though they shunned her and sent her away, believing themselves above her. The first solace that Rowena found was in Poland with a family that took her in and in return she healed their son of his illness, granting him immortality (after growing to care for him). In a more stable position and unable to stay in one place for too long, Rowena continued travelling and began studying under a great witch who introduced her to the Grand Coven. Though Rowena had great skill and potential they banished her from the coven, critical of her and her use of magic, and Rowena fled, looking over her shoulder for the years to come.
Rowena settled in many places over the years meeting many people, trying to find a life and hone her talent (despite being forbidden to use magic). When Rowena hears that her son exists and is the King of Hell (although he'd died years ago) she tries hard to get back into his life (and manipulate him for power) despite their poor relationship. Whilst things don't go well he does at least help her to get revenge on the Grand Coven.
Over the next few years, Rowena does a myriad of things: releasing Lucifer from the cage, being killed twice, trying and failing to re-cage Lucifer, helping stop the end of the world, and trying to figure out her goals. After meeting God and realising that power wasn't the key to happiness it made Rowena have to take a big look at her life. Thankfully, the Winchesters needing her help gave her something to do. After her son sacrifices his life Rowena realises that she did love him and in grief tries to get Death to resurrect him. It fails, she's at a low but it does reconfirm that she is trying to do better in her life now.
History
Rowena was born in Scotland in the 1600s (~1641). She grew up a poor tanner's daughter, feeling she had few choices in her life and "in a time where women had no power" found some: becoming a witch. But it wasn't a simple journey. Along the way she ended up pregnant (to a non-magical man) who abandoned her after she'd given birth which made it very hard for Rowena to raise her child (or want to). Their life was hard, poor and alone, Rowena continued honing her skill, eventually being chased out of Scotland during the witch trials (and abandoning her son).Alone again, Rowena travelled to Europe to find shelter and study more magic.
