( she taps his hand with her finger, before squeezing it gently )
Though I plan to buy it in plain sight, hide it under your nose.
( she looks up a little mischievously at him. her idea felt that good that she believed he wouldn't realise it was for him until she got him to unwrap it, and then he'd realise what she'd done )
There is one thing you could help me with, and that's a little taste testing, to see which bottle I should bring home.
( aka to the bunker for the next whatever group meal )
Hey, all the way down there? You could be doing anything and I'd have no idea.
[ An affectionately-told short people joke from an absolute skyscraper of a man. Sam chuckles lightly, almost sheepishly, as he bobs his head in a nod. ] But...yeah, sounds good. I won't look too hard.
[ If his heart flutters a little bit in its hopeful, lonely way, then. That's just Sam. ]
Oh yeah? Think I can help you out there. [ It's an extremely easy, and enjoyable, favour she's asked. ] Just lay out the options and I'll happily be your guinea pig.
( another woman would pull her tongue out at him for his comment. rowena rolls her eyes at him (fondly), tugging him in the direction of one of the stalls, pushing them a little path through the crowd )
It'll be something nice just before lunch. Which you're buying.
( she can be a little cheeky in return. it's totally a date. in her eyes, anyway )
What are your plans for Christmas? I'm assuming something with Dean, and perhaps Castiel that hopefully doesn't involve a case?
[ Sam, in turn, maneuvers his way through the crowd at her side, cutting through with ease as a result of his stature and her decisive movement. ]
Am I? [ He laughs, easily talked into it. ] Alright, alright. Lunch is on me. [ There's a softer chuckle then, a duck of his eyes. ] Happy to.
[ When they get to it, that is. But he doesn't think about the possible options, about the next step in their-...it's a date, right? Date. Because she asks about plans that are further in the future, humming thoughtfully. ]
Uh, yeah. Hope so. [ That it doesn't involve a case, that is. ] No solid plans yet, though. Maybe getting some actual relaxing in? Probably putting on some old movie and drinking egg nog.
That almost sounds like you've made a tradition out of it.
( or at the very least that he'd done it before. or planned it, in case something had come up )
And the kind of quiet you certainly deserve, my love. Which I do believe I keep telling you.
( she knows, he needs to keep saving people, but one day she hopes she'll manage to steal him away to something relaxing. a quiet cabin with a fire and books. maybe a lake to swim in )
I'd like to. [ Is that too big a dream to dream, for a hunter? For a Winchester? He can't help but heave a sigh, shoulders sagging a bit. ] Maybe someday.
[ Pipe dreams are okay, probably. Every one in a while. Nothing too dangerous about imagining that they might have the odd-peaceful day for Christmas, just once a year...
...Man. The bar really is so, so low. ]
You do. [ Keep telling him, that is. ] Kinda hard to internalize it though, y'know? After...
[ Well. His whole life. Hearing from both inside and out: you're a monster, a freak, an abomination.
Just some normal, mentally-healthy reflections for the holiday market. ]
( she scrunches her nose at the question, and then shakes her head )
Not for Christmas. It was never my holiday growing up, and my traditions didn't shift enough to need to celebrate it. I do things on the days surrounding it, reflections and spells on the Solstice, smaller pieces of Yule that have stayed with me. The last few weeks of December I often use for myself, and preparing for the next year.
( there was a lot that rowena glossed over, particularly regarding the specifics of her traditions and spells. she'd answer more if he wanted to know, the details were simple even if they were important to her, but she didn't yet instinctively know how much he wanted to know. even if he did seem to enjoy hearing about magic )
Doesn't have to be for Christmas. [ He says easily. She should know as well as anyone that they're hardly beholden to that holiday in particular, given that John was never around to celebrate it and, more importantly, that they're aware of a vast number of other meaningful dates in that month by virtue of being hunters. ] I was thinking of the Solstice or Yule first.
[ Her being a witch and all. ]
Think you've got that last bit in common with a lot of people. [ Taking time for herself and preparing for the new year, that is. ...Except that hadn't been 'the last bit' she'd said, and so Sam blinks before uttering a breathy laugh, amending: ] — Uh. The end-of-year self care in general. Not sure everyone goes for massages. [ There's a thoughtful pause as he navigates the crowds, head canting. ] Though maybe they should. Might get a lot of those crazy holiday shoppers and party planners to calm down.

Besides, a little massage never hurt anyone.
