[ Things are...complicated. But when is that not true? This particularly flavor, though, is because of the moment he and Rowena had had in the woods. A kiss, simple and innocent, yet endlessly complex in its potential to unravel the rest of his life.
...It sounds dramatic when he thinks of it like that, but Sam can't help but think of what Dean might say, were he to find out. How his own relationships have gone (up in flames) in the past. And...if he's even enough for her, were this to turn into something more, considering he's a hunter with a dark history and a high likelihood of being dead in a week.
Dead again, that is. So it's with some hesitation that Sam agrees to meet her, and though he spends the whole of the car ride there antsy and worrying over possibilities, Sam at least pulls himself together enough by the time he arrives and lays eyes on her to appear more or less collected, teeth flashing in a smile. ]
Hey. ...Oh, thanks. [ He greets her and then notices the cups, looking pleasantly surprised as he takes one into his hands. ] This smells great.
[ And it tastes amazing too, which he discovers when he takes an exploratory sip. ]
No problem. Nice to have a reason to get some air every once in a while. [ Sam chuckles. Glancing around, he adds: ] And this looks really nice. Been a minute since I've gone to something like this.
( rowena's fingers slip around his, linking together, and her smile widens, full of affection as she looks at him. she'd kept it quietly hidden before, focused on their friendship, but even complicated, knowing samuel shared some affection lets her leak some of it out )
I usually end up passing through them each year, not always intentionally, but any shopping at this time of year makes them harder to avoid.
( rowena tugs gently on his hand to start them walking, leading him through the market )
And even if most of the theme is focused around Christmas, I can still find interesting things. Some stalls delightfully just house gifts, or things more winter-based than a specific holiday.
[ Christmas is complicated, too. Always has been. But he and Dean -- and people like Rowena, who've entered their lives -- have found ways to make the holiday their own, to reclaim it in the name of...at least some level of fun and laughter.
New traditions. New...things, in general. He glances sideways at Rowena, nervousness ebbing in her presence. The overly-joyous air of the market helps, too. ]
I had no idea this was here. [ He remarks, looking up and around with curiosity. ] It's, uh...pretty popular, huh?
[ There sure are a lot of people. So many that it's difficult to see what's on offer at most of the stalls. Fortunately Sam is so tall that he's able to crane his neck to peek past them, but his companion... ]
Looking for anything in particular? [ He offers, in an attempt to be at least somewhat helpful. ]
Markets in all forms have always been busy, I've seen much of that over the centuries. Though there's certainly a different buzz at this time of year.
( rowena plans to share that with him, to get him involved and maybe even buying something. or at the least sweetly getting him to carry a bag )
I like to find what people have handmade. Journals, or candles, something knitted. Though occasionally, you can find herbs or crystals. Commercialised as magic may be, pure resources are still powerful.
( she sips at her wine, teasing him )
You'll have to let me know what you spot.
( pretending she can't see. she can, but also maybe he'll see something of interest or what she mentioned )
Hey, I've seen some dead ones. If the weather's crap, or they just...I dunno, had bad marketing. [ There's a little shrug. ] I'm not a market expert, though. [ Or marketing! ] But, yeah. Holiday's are gonna be a big time for shopping in all its forms.
[ He's never been a malls guy, but would avoid them like the plague this time of year if he was (and if they weren't also a dying breed). ]
That's what most of this is, right? Handmade? [ He'd thought that was the whole idea, but glances around at some of the wares he can spot to check. ] But I'll keep an eye out.
[ Plus, if he can shake her for a brief period, he can grab one of the things she'd mentioned to give her as a holiday gift... ]
If there's anything you see here that Dean wouldn't hate, let me know?

( she squeezes his hand gently, rubbing her thumb in a small circle against his skin )
Dean though... that might be trickier, but I'm sure I can come up with something. Maybe they'll even do it in plaid.
( looking innocently towards a stall as she teases him )
